I have been awarded a two-week residency outside of Reykjavik, Iceland with Samband íslenskra myndlistarmanna (SÍM) from July 2-14. Artist residencies are precious opportunities to have dedicated time to make work. At my residency in Prince Edward County, Ontario last fall, I was astounded by the amount of work I made in a week. My work has become more and more an explicit emotional response to landscape, and Iceland has some of the most spectacular and inspirational scenery I can imagine. So this is a pivotal moment for my artistic growth and practice.
It is often assumed that artist residencies are free for artists. Only a scattered few are subsidized. Most charge a nominal apartment and studio rental fee, but the costs of traveling to the residency site, food, and art supplies quickly add up.
In short, I cannot afford to go to Iceland without the support of my community. I must raise $1,500 by April 30th (that's TWELVE days away) and an additional $1,500 by June 30th.
In exchange for your investment, I have some exciting gifts for sale--all available at my store. Each gift includes a work of art created in Iceland and the opportunity to follow my journey at the residency through a private blog.
And if you don't want to wait until July for your art, I have a range of small pieces--drawings, paintings, and collages--available for sale at my store. All purchases from now through June 30th will also support my residency.
I literally can't do this without you. Please support me and receive the gift of art with a contribution today!
